Dr. Dani McVety started Lap of Love in Tampa in 2009, shortly after vet school, while she was practicing emergency medicine. She'd volunteered in human hospice before that, and the practice she built does end-of-life care for pets and nothing else: veterinary hospice, in-home euthanasia, and telehospice, with cremation, aftercare, and pet loss support around them.
Word spread quickly. Dr. Mary Gardner, a vet school classmate with a decade of software design behind her, joined as co-founder in 2010 and led the build of the company's own practice management software. The first veterinarian outside Florida started in Charlotte in 2011, a dedicated Support Center began answering families' calls in 2015, and the doctor count passed 300 in 2023, the year Lap of Love launched an internal certification course for hospice and euthanasia practitioners. If you're a veterinarian thinking about leaving the clinic floor, this is the work: house calls, quality-of-life conversations with owners of aging pets, and often a family's last appointment with the animal they love.
Lap of Love's veterinary hiring is for in-home hospice and euthanasia work, full time or part time, with the company's Support Center fielding families' calls behind the doctors.
